I've come to the conclusion that if I don't "get a life," as common parlance would have it, very soon, I'm going to lose my bloody mind.

I read in the local paper the other day that the owner of one of the local magic shops has been found murdered -- again. Even in Sunnydale, their mortality rates seem unusually high. One would think that the owner of a magic shop would be able to perform a few basic protection spells to prevent that sort of thing from happening so very often, but I guess not, if past history is any indication.

I had been bored bored bored since B broke in and took Red away. I was having fun playing with the little witch, although it's always more fun to play with Buffy. I'd spent some time thinking about who I wanted to play with next.
Sauntering up to Giles's apartment I looked in through the window to see him sitting and reading a newspaper on his couch. Walking to the front door I opened it and sauntered in.
"Hey Giles." I grinned wickedly at him.
"Miss me?"

All right, perhaps there really is a point to locking one's door. On the other hand, anything or anyone that's truly determined to get in, will, and locking the door against it would just cause a lot more property damage in the process.

I put down the newspaper in a leisurely fashion and looked up at Faith. 'Not particularly,' I replied.

I smirked at him and plopped down on the couch next to him.
"Whatcha reading?" I asked looking down at the newspaper.
"World in peril? Getting ready to tell Buffy to smackdown whatever evil is in town?"
I looked at him and leaned back on the couch. "Sure haven't done much with the place Giles. It looks exactly the same."

"Whatcha reading? World in peril? Getting ready to tell Buffy to smackdown whatever evil is in town?"

'If I was, I certainly wouldn't expect to be reading anything truthful about it in the papers,' I said, picked up the lukewarm cup of tea on the table, and took a sip.

"Sure haven't done much with the place Giles. It looks exactly the same."

'I like it. I don't really care what anyone else might happen to think of it.'

He was pissing me off just sitting there, acting like I was nothing. Like I wasn't something to be feared.
"Guess what Gman? The big bad's sitting right next to you." I pulled the knife out of my jacket pocket and smirked back at Giles.
"Looks like you didn't need to read the paper after all."

"Guess what Gman? The big bad's sitting right next to you."

'And, like all the rest of them, you overestimate yourself,' I told her in a bland, matter-of-fact way.

"Looks like you didn't need to read the paper after all."

'No, I suppose I didn't, because it wouldn't tell me what you think you're proving to anyone by breaking in and threatening to -- I presume -- cut up a rather defenceless, middle-aged Watcher in his home.'

'Did you plan on doing it quickly? Or slowly?' I inquired, curiously.

'If you're planning on the former, the obvious place is the carotid artery, in the neck. One bleeds out almost as quickly from the femoral artery in the leg, though. You might want to remember that in case you ever get into an actual fight with that thing. People are too busy looking for vital organ strikes to think they can die just as easily from a cut in the thigh, and most people will tend to lead with one leg, to make themselves less of a target.'

'If the latter, well, there are so many possible variations I couldn't possibly presume to guess which one you might attempt.'

Not dropping my smirk I backhanded him hard across the face, sending him to the floor. I got up off the couch quickly and stood over him.
"Thanks Giles. I'll have to keep that in mind." I snickered. "Always the watcher."
I grabbed him by his arm and hauled him back up to his feet.
"But I just can't decide which one to do with you?" I said snidely. "Of course this doesn't have anything to do with you Gman, your just gonna be fun to play with." I flashed him another wicked grin.

I brushed the back of my hand across my nose and mouth, pleased to see that I wasn't bleeding. Yet.

"Thanks Giles. I'll have to keep that in mind." I snickered. "Always the watcher."

'No. Not always,' I said.

"But I just can't decide which one to do with you?" I said snidely. "Of course this doesn't have anything to do with you Gman, you're just gonna be fun to play with."

'Fun for you, any way.' I straightened my glasses with my free hand. 'Sorry I can't say the same. I never found gutter-trawling slags particularly attractive.'

What was a gutter twarling slag? I didn't know, but I"m sure it was bad.
I punched him again in the mouth, making sure not to go all out full slayer strength. Had to save that for B later. I smirked menacingly at him.
"You don't get it Gman. I'm in charge here, and yet you keep running that mouth of yours."
I grabbed him by the shirt and shoved him down roughly in a chair, looking around to see what I could use to bind him to it.

"You don't get it Gman. I'm in charge here, and yet you keep running that mouth of yours."

'No, Faith -- you don't get it,' I told her, in the tone of tutor to a particularly slow-witted student. 'Since you are, clearly, "in charge," it's virtually all I can do.'

I punched him once more in the face hard, hoping that would be enough to keep him dazed for a few seconds.
Walking into his kitchen I find a bunch of twine rolled up in a ball. I walk over to Giles and forceably tie his hands behind his back.
"how long you think it'll be before the superbitch busts up our little party?" I asked with a slight laugh.

'You know, if you're using a square knot to do that, if you've tied it incorrectly in haste, there a chance I'll be able to slip it and free myself?' I commented to Faith as she used a rather rough packing twine to tie my wrists. 'If I'd known this was the use it was going to be put to, I would have bought something a bit smoother. Not the sort of thing one would want to use for fun, is it?'

"How long you think it'll be before the superbitch busts up our little party?"

'No reason why she ought to, really,' I said. 'It isn't as if Buffy checks up on me regularly, or anything of the sort. Sorry if that disappoints you. I'm afraid we're rather stuck with one another -- until you decide to kill me, any way.'

"Come on Giles." I said roughly bopping the back of his head with my palm and running my hand through his hair. I walked around to the front of him and smirked at him.
"Don't be so hard on yourself. You're her watcher, can't tell me she forgot all about you." I said dryly.
Not like she forgot all about me.

'My, your tastes have changed more than a little, haven't they?' I observed with considerable amusement.

All right, it did nearly scare the life out of me to see someone holding a knife to Rupert's throat, but the threat was neutralised, now. After all the times he's beaten the crap out of me, tied me up and left me for dead, or worse, it was just too, too funny to see him rather the worse for wear with several blossoming bruises, tied to a chair.

I think I came very close to hurting something, laughing.

'Do you mind?' I asked irritably into Ethan's relentless gales of laughter. Made me almost wistful, in a way, wishing Faith had killed me about an hour ago and left my corpse cooling on floor for him to find, instead.

'Do you mind?'

'As a matter of fact, now that you mention it, I do,' I said, stepping over the dark haired girl to examine Rupert, up close and personal, as it were. 'In case it escaped your notice, I just saved your life. You're being terribly ingracious about it, Ripper.'

'I'll be a lot more than ingracious... when you, er, let me go,' I finished on a rather weak note.

'Perhaps I shouldn't, then,' I told him. 'Perhaps I should just turn around and walk back out the door. Then you can sit -- and wait -- and wonder in mounting suspense just how long it's going to be until she gets back up and finishes the job.'

'Who is she, anyway?' I asked. At first I thought it was that dark haired debutante gone berserk, but I finally decided I didn't recognise her at all.

'Faith,' I answered. Ethan looked at me quizzically. Perhaps he thought it was a mild oath. 'That's Faith,' I repeated, looking back down at her.

'The rogue Slayer? Faith? No last name, like Cher, or Madonna?' I asked Rupert, whose lack of answer was answer enough.

'That is a bit pretentious, dear,' I told her. 'You might want to think on doing something about that. I mean, you may be a Slayer, but no one is ever going to take you seriously if you keep giving yourself unwonted airs.' There was a disturbing fire of anger and madness in the girl's eyes, but, even if looks could kill -- well, some can, but not theirs -- I would have already been dead from Rupert's, and hers couldn't have harmed me any way.

I looked down at her (in more ways than one, but that's beside the point). 'Ethan Rayne,' I said, filling in the blanks where Rupert was remiss. 'So sorry I didn't have the pleasure of making your acquaintance the last time I was in Sunnydale.'

As annoying as it is, there is something rather breath-taking about the breadth of Ethan's audacity, at times. I wondered if he was going to just stand there and talk until Faith got up under her own power and put a stop to it. If I was lucky, maybe Faith would kill Ethan first, and let me watch.

I laid on the ground, paralyzed. What had that bastard done to me? I could only move my eyes, I couldn't even talk.
Vaguely I wondered why the other man hadn't untied Giles yet. Maybe he wanted to kill Giles himself. This spell or whatever the fuck it was couldn't last for long, and then I'd make them both pay.

I picked up what was left of the twine the Slayer tied Rupert up with and started chanting over it. After I was done, humming to myself a little, I rolled her over onto her side and hog tied her, ankles to wrists, behind her back, then added a double loops around her neck and fastened it in with the rest. If she struggled too hard once she was able to move, she'd strangle herself.

'Oh, and if you're thinking you'll be able to free yourself, you're wrong,' I told her, still kneeling down over her. 'If that charm could make a cord to hold the god-Wolf Fenris, I think it will hold a Slayer, right enough.'

'What do you say, Rupert, should I just kill her now and put her out of your misery for you?'

'No,' Rupert replied immediately. Spoilsport. 'She's not in a position to hurt anyone, now.'

'Best time to do it, though, really,' I argued, a bit half-heartedly, since I knew Rupert wasn't going to change his mind. I should have just done it, and never bothered to ask. I could see a muscle twitching below the Slayer's eye, and knew the spell was starting to lose its effectiveness. It seems I'd immobilised her just in time. Perhaps I ought to gag her, as well, before she started running her mouth. That would hardly be sporting, though.

But what to do with Rupert?

I wanted to lash out at the british guy as he was tying me up, but I still couldn't move. I started to feel tingly all over like pins and needles when I started to be able to. First it was just a little, I could blink. Then I could move my mouth.
"Let me go you son of a bitch." I started thrashing around wildly, before realizing with the way he tied me it probably wasn't such a good idea.
"I'll fucking kill you."

"I'll fucking kill you."

'Better people than you have tried, girl,' I told her with contempt. 'And I'm still here. Your existence is a bit more precarious, at the moment. For all your vaunted Slayer strength, all I'd have to do is reach over just a little bit and cut off your air for a few minutes, and you'd be gone. No real effort required.'

'Ethan, don't,' Rupert said, in a tone of voice that sounded as if he could actually do something to me if I didn't comply.

'Why not?' I asked, standing, regarding him curiously. 'You put down rabid dogs, Ripper,' I told him as I walked behind his chair. 'You know that.' I leaned over, letting my arms slide over his shoulders, and embraced him. 'This one isn't any better than one of them,' I whispered into his ear.
